The 20th anniversary conference of UK-based, internationally-oriented civil liberties group Statewatch was held at Conway Hall in London on Saturday 25th June 2011. More than 220 people from eighteen EU member states were present, and over thirty NGOs were represented.

The opening plenary saw speeches from Gareth Peirce (solicitor) discussing the war on terror and Tony Bunyan (Director of Statewatch) on the state of Europe, while the closing plenary, "Charting the terrain: the decade ahead" saw speeches by Shami Chakrabarti (Director of UK civil liberties group Liberty), Courtenay Griffith QC, Aidan White (Secretary-General, International Federation of Journalists 1987-2011) and Tony Bunyan (Director of Statewatch). In between were workshops on : "Criminalising communities and the policing of protest" and on "Beyond 'Fortress Europe’: Immigration, asylum and border controls".
